Free

Each year we celebrate our freedom on July 4th – Independence Day with family fun, fireworks, and gratitude for the blessings of liberty. What if we changed our celebration to one that lasted year-round? As followers of Jesus, we enjoy a very special freedom, freedom that comes from life in Christ. Christ’s gift of freedom surpasses the limitations of time, national boundaries, and even death. In Christ we are free to be Formed, Redeemed, Empowered, and Encouraged!

Hope is Born

Hope is Born

This has been a hard year. COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment, tensions during a presidential election, searching for direction in a country wavering on despair… What can the Christmas season bring that can change any of that? The birth of Jesus brought light into a very dark world. The Light still shines and this Christmas we will experience what people over 2,000 years ago did: Hope!  This Christmas season, Hope is Born!

Lessons from the Life of Moses

Lessons from the Life of Moses

Moses wasn’t always the leader that we learn him to be in the Exodus story. Once a prince of Egypt, holding the power and might of a nation, he becomes aware of his roots and that he is not the one other people thought him to be. How does he negotiate life while living in a lesser status? God had a plan! We can learn from Moses’ experience and see what God will do in and through us.

Surviving the Wilderness

Surviving the Wilderness

When facing difficult trials in life, many of us take the approach of either fight or flight. But as people of faith, we have another path. When our back is against the wall, we are to seek God's help through prayer. Even when we feel powerless, God remains all powerful. The way to survive the wilderness of life is not only to remember, but believe, God will make a way through the trial.

Elijah

Elijah

The prophet Elijah is one of the few biblical figures who appear in both the Old and New Testaments. In the Old Testament, he was called to hold kings accountable and to stand strong against the false idols of this world. In the New Testament he appeared with Jesus at the Transfiguration of our Lord.  He is a giant of our faith, but the truth is even Elijah suffered from many of the fears and frailties that affect us as we journey in the faith. As we face times of trial and wilderness, we can learn much from Elijah's life and service to God.

Necessities

Necessities

We’ve learned a lot during the last few months about what matters most in life. Things we thought were essential before the COVID-19 pandemic may not seem so essential anymore. On the other hand, things that we often took for granted have become more important to us. What did Jesus teach about life’s essentials?
