Our Smile Makers ministry continues to grow and touch more people! When the ministry was started, the goal was to send 100 encouraging and cheerful cards a month. This month alone 334 cards were sent! The ministry is currently sending cards to 6 nursing home facilities in our area, as well as 30 cards every month to active duty members of our military. You can see a picture of one of the nursing home residents reading a Smile Makers card above. It was included in one of several thank you notes that we've received. A couple of which you can see on this page.
Smile Makers also recently gave 300 Christmas cards to the Elks to be sent to members of the military. Each card our Smile Makers gave them contains a Christmas card, a personal letter, an angel, and a pocket prayer shawl. These mini shawls are made by our Prayer Shawl Ministry and include a scripture verse (Proverbs 3:5-6) and a note. When Ola dropped off our 300 cards at the Elks, they were so touched by the pocket prayer shawls, they asked if we could make an additional 2,000 so one could be placed in each of the Christmas cards they send! What a powerful example of the way God takes the seeds we plant and grows them beyond what we can imagine.
We can always use more note writers! The more people who want to write notes, the more this ministry can continue to grow. If you’re interested in writing encouraging notes for those who need a smile, you can email us or call the church office and Ola will help you get started. You can also drop off blank cards at the church office or at worship on Sundays.
