On March 8 four of our local United Methodist Churches are coming together to Serve Pinellas by packing a total of 100,000 meals for the hungry in our community. Each church will work at their own location to pack 25,000 meals!
How does the food packing work?
Meals of Hope will deliver ingredients to our gym on Friday, March 6.
SET-UP ON SATURDAY
We will set up assembly lines in the gym on Saturday, March 7 at 10 a.m. We will need some strong volunteers, as well as our table leaders to help with set-up. Table leaders will receive training so they can help instruct volunteers and make sure packing is going smoothly at their tables on Sunday.
PACKING ON SUNDAY
On Sunday, March 8 we will pack meals starting at 10 a.m. We invite everyone to come to the gym after you worship to help us pack the ingredients into bags. Each bag we pack provides at least 6 meals! Volunteers do not have to stay the entire time. We will rotate people in and out of the assembly lines as they are able to help, so come serve for as long as you’re able.
Who can help pack meals?
Anyone! There are jobs for people of all ages and abilities. We do need a few strong people who can move bags and carry heavy things to help with set-up on Saturday and during the packing on Sunday. But there are many jobs that can also be done by children and by those with limited mobility or those who need to be seated.
Where will the food go?
Most of the food we pack at St. Paul will go to Open Arms to feed the families we serve there. Some food will also go to other food banks in the community so we can reach even more hungry people. Each of the four churches has their own distribution plan for their portion of the food.
